Postie Delivery
Posties will deliver mail to a letterbox if it is located on the street line and will only deliver mail to letterboxes on a public right of way if there are five or more letterboxes on that right of way. Letterboxes need to be clearly identified by street number and, where applicable, flat number. Postie delivery of mail to apartment blocks of five or more apartments will be made to a locked ground floor boxes in a common entrance.
Postie may deliver mail into business premises if a letterbox or letter-slot can’t be provided. If a business is located in a building without a lift, posties will not deliver mail above the first floor and a locked ground floor box should be provided or a person nominated to accept the mail.
Please note that the postie delivery service actually provided to you may vary slightly depending on local circumstances.
Undeliverable Items
Items sent within New Zealand that we cannot deliver and that have a senders address will be returned to the sender.
Items sent within New Zealand that we cannot deliver and which does not have a senders address will be held by Pete’s Post for a period of three (3) months and will be dealt with in accordance with the Postal Services Act 1998.
Stamps as a method of payment for postage
We do not repurchase postage stamps.
We also do not accept stamps:
- that are not valid for our network
- that have already been used (i.e. postmarked)
- that are imperfect (i.e. defaced, incomplete or cut)
- that are imprinted stamps cut from a bill, note form, share transfer or stamp duty cheques
- issued by another country, including New Zealand dependencies
Short Paid Items
If an item does not have enough postage for delivery, we may return the item to the sender, delay the item or deliver it. If we deliver the item, we may charge a handling fee in addition to the postage owing.
Dangerous goods
All items, irrespective of packaging, listed in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulatiosn are not to be sent by post. These include:
- explosives (e.g. ammunition, fireworks, igniters, flares, toy caps)
- gases (e.g. aerosol cans, cigarette lighters, camping gas cylinders – fill or empty, fire extinguishers)
- flammable liquids and flammable solids (e.g. paint, accohol2, perfume, matches, petrol, kerosene, turpentine, solvents, cleaning fluids, nitrate products)
- oxidising substances and organic peroxides (e.g. hair dye, disinfectants, fibreglass repair kits)
- toxic (poisonous) and infectious substances
- radioactive materials (except in quantities exempted from the radiation Protection Act 1965.
- corrosives (e.g. mercury – including thermometers, bleach, nail polish and remover, nitric acids, battery fluids)
- other goods that are highly magnetic, polymerisable or otherwise unsuitable for carriage (e.g. asbestos, dry ice, first aid kits, wet cell batteries).
Other Prohibited items
These items, while not dangerous, are prohibited:
- cash, currency, bullion or vouchers
- live animals except correctly packaged bees, leeches, silkworms and harmless insects
- perishable items
- all drugs unless in prescription quantities and packaged correctly (additional restrictions apply for international services)
- illegal narcotic substances
- firearms (including parts) and ammunition
- human remains (including ashes)
- any item or consignment valued in excess of $NZ50,000
- any noxious substance or thing or any dead animal
- any unsolicited indecent item or representation of any kind
- any item containing anything that is capable, as packed, of causing injury to any person or damage to property
- any inadequately packaged item
